Playlist – 7th May 2009

Jazz, jazz and more jazz! We began with a great track from one of the recently re-released Black Saint CDs from David Murray’s classic Home album which was followed by a couple of tracks from two vocalists we have admired for may years – Terry Callier and Joyce – before we dived headfirst in deep jazz. First up was Pharoah Sanders, then Marcus Belgrave followed by Ravi Coltrane. Another track from Andy Sheppard’s great new album followed – is this his best yet? – and more vocals before we cut back to music from jazz greats Tomasz Stanko (who played last week in Norwich), Ornette Coleman and David Murray once more – this time with the Gwo-Ka masters with whom he’ll be playing at Coleman’s Meltdown on London’s Southbank next month. See our blog news item on this for more details.

We think it worked – but send us some feedback if you heard the show. Just use the comments section of the blog entry.
