Playlist – 20 May 2010

More great new music on Cosmic Jazz!  There’s so much great jazz being issued each month we can hardly keep up – but we’ll squeeze in as much as we can into tonight’s show.  We had to play a track from the reflective duo collaboration between Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden and one from fellow ECM labelmates Food, the group led by saxophonist Ian Ballamy, but there was more from the Soul Jazz Orchestra and Jerker Kluge too.

We also featured a track from pianist Gwilym Simcock’s ambitious second release – and there will be more from this album in coming weeks.  Apologies for the dropout after 38 minutes – a sudden ending that took us by surprise…  But this is live jazz after all.

  1. The Soul Jazz Orchestra – Consecration
  2. Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden – For All We Know
  3. Carmen Lundy – Better Luck Next Time
  4. Food – Mictyris
  5. Jerker Kluge’s Deep Jazz – Black Tiger
  6. Don Rendell Quintet – On the Way
  7. Doug Hammond – Moves
  8. Gwilym Simcock – On Broadway
  9. Roy Brooks and the Artistic Truth – The Smart Set
  10. Miles Davis – Teo
  11. Erik Truffaz – Arroyo
  12. Arve Henriksen – Recording Angel
  13. Yusef Lateef – Concerto for Yusef Lateef/Third Movement
  14. Joanna McGregor – Libertango
  15. Rosalia de Souza – Luiza Manequim
  16. Flying Lotus – German Haircut

Our video this week features trumpeter Arve Henriksen accompanied by electronics and guitar from Helge Sten.  Is it jazz?  You tell us…

  1. Hi fellas,
On listen again this week. Great opener and loving Jarrett/Haden. Track from ‘Missouri Sky’ album with Metheny on a future show? One of my all-timers, that one!

  2. Hi Pete
Great to hear from you. ‘Under the Missouri Sky’ is already in the box for next week! It’s a wonderful record – and one I’m always happy to revisit.
