Tonight’s Cosmic Jazz was the usual audio bouillabaisse of jazz styles: this week I’d been listening to an eclectic mix of more dance inspired jazz – from Nicola Conte remixes to the Blue Note grooves of Joe Henderson and this was a more dance inflected show.  New music came from veteran Lloyd Miller’s recent collaboration with the Heliocentrics and we also played the astonishing Legacy from Andew Hill and more from Erik Truffaz’s collaboration with Mexican audio collagist Murcof.  Eclectic?  Of course – that’s Cosmic Jazz.

  1. Lloyd Miller and the Heliocentrics – Nava
  2. Wynton Kelly Trio (feat. Wes Montgomery) – Four on Six
  3. Joe Henderson – No More Blues
  4. Nicola Conte and Gianluca Petrella – New Standards
  5. Havana Cultura Band feat. Danay – Lagrimas de Soledad (No Existen Palabras)
  6. Quantic and his Combo Barbaro – Undelivered Letter
  7. Andrew Hill – Legacy
  8. Troubleman – Intergalactic You, Intergalactic Me
  9. Lester Bowie – For Fela
  10. Erik Truffaz with Murcof – Avant L’Aube
  11. Kenny Clarke – Big Bang
  12. Milton Banana Trio – Primitivo
  13. Nat Birchall – Akhenaten
  14. Winston Mankunku Ngozi – Give Peace a Chance
  15. Manu Katche – So Groovy

This week’s video is from Joe Henderson – here playing Monk’s Ask Me Now in a trio recording for German television from 1993.  Al Foster is on drums and Dave Holland on bass – brilliant!
