Halesworth’s first Jazz and Beer Festival takes place between 25-27 March. Details of each of the three nights are below. All events take place at The Cut Arts Centre in Halesworth – check out the website here for details.
Doors open on the Festival from 6pm on Friday and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday, giving you ample time to try out the beers. All are supplied by The Low House, Laxfield – Adnam’s Pub of the Year 2010. Even more – there’s free jazz on the Concourse on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Friday 25 March
Sam Crockatt and Polly Gibbons
Young rising tenor sax star Sam Crockatt won the 2009 Jazz CD of the Year in the Parlimentary Jazz Awards and is a founding member of the edgy London-based Loop Collective.
Club diva Polly Gibbons covers the jazz waterfront with a delicious contralto voice that is equally at home with ballards and blues belters, torch songs and tin pan alley tunes.
Saturday 26 March
Manchester-based trumpet player and DJ Matthew Halsall’s atmospheric albums have received rave reviews and heavy airplay from the likes of taste-setters Gilles Peterson, Stuart Maconie, Tom Robinson and Mike Chadwick.
Sunday 26 March
Kenny Ball and Band
Britain’s most prolific chart-topping horn player needs no introduction – after more than 50 years in the business he’s a national jazz treasure. But Ball is more than a household name, he’s a jazzman to his core.
