A solo show from Derek while Neil is away. Derek continued his recent commitment to free jazz with a challenging track from Kalaparush Maurice McIntyre, the title track of his 1982 Ram’s Run record. Derek recently found a new vinyl copy in the wonderful Rare and Racy shop which is a Sheffield institution. Go there if you are in the city or visit their website. There was a tribute to the pianist Ray Bryant who died recently and is featured on a long time Cosmic Jazz favourite: Art Blakey’s Cobano Chant. Neil’s absence gave me the chance this time to play his Cosmic Jazz No 1 choice in our recent chart; the infectious, inspiring and uplifting Booker’s Garden by the Charles Lloyd Quartet on the Rabo de Nube CD. I am playing the track as I write and can never resist any opportunity to play it over, and over, again.
