Pete, who is a long-time supporter of Cosmic Jazz and who has been a guest on the show on several occasions, returned this week. As always, his selection was eclectic, interesting and reached beyond the traditional boundaries of jazz. There was plenty of information as well about the tunes he chose – Pete is very knowledgeable about the music he loves. His selection included his own personal tribute to Terry Callier (including a version of the classic Fred Neil song Dolphins), some rare Brazilian grooves, a touch of unfamiliar Carla Bley and Johnny Griffin’s take on Wade in the Water.
- Grover Washington Jr. – Masterpiece
- Dorothy Ashby – Little Sunflower
- Terry Callier feat. Beth Orton – Dolphins
- Terry Callier – Can’t Catch the Trane
- Sammy Figuero & his Latin Explosion – Gufillo
- Quantic feat Alice Russell – I’d Cry
- Baden Powell – Manha de Carneval
- Modulo 5 – Exploration Bossa Nova
- Charles Wright & the 103rd Street Band – Spreading Honey
- Barbara Dane – I’m on my Way
- Wes Montgomery – Sundown
- John Klemmer – Free Soul
- Carla Bley – In India
- Negroni’s Trio – On the Way
- Johnny Griffin – Wade in the Water
We love new piano trios on CJ (Including GoGo Penguin) and so video this week comes from Negroni’s Trio performing Los Duendes live.
Hey – that’s worth working overnight for! Right now I’m listening to Milton Nascimento’s sublime Oferterio and I need similarly inspirational music to keep me going… Hope to catch the whole show live.
Couldn’t listen live because of streaming problems here in Beijing. All systems not working well as a result of 18th Party Congress clampdowns so will have to wait for a first reappearance of Listen Again…
